If you file for and get a patent, nobody is going to defend it for you.

You have to defend your patent yourself directly and through the courts.  You also must maintain your patent with the Patent and Trademark office.

If you fail to maintain your patent it can be infringed, but you can possibly renew it when you can afford to do so. 

If you knowingly fail to defend your patent you may lose your patent protection entirely.
