If Do-It Fishing has what you want, you should buy it from them. I don't mean that angrily or sarcastically. I mean it in all seriousness as somebody who wants your money but won't lie to you or give you bad advice to get it.
Sometimes I have people contact me wanting me to make a knockoff of a Do-It mold. That makes no sense to me. If anybody (not just Do-It) already makes the mold, you want it is ALWAYS going to be cheaper to just buy it than to have somebody else copy it.
Now as a mold maker, who may in theory compete with Do-It Molds, you might think it wouldn't be in my best interest to tell you that. The thing is its true. If somebody already makes what you want buy it from them. Its just good advice.
I mention Do-It in particular, because I know they know who I am and they are still a good company to me. I think some people at Do-It have sent custom mold customers my way in the past, but even if they haven't, they know who I am. I still buy from them myself. I probably have a couple dozen of their lead casting molds hanging on the wall. They had what I wanted, and it was cheaper and easier for me to buy it from them, just like it is for you. I also buy hooks, wire forms, and other accessories from them.
Do-It has screwed up two orders for me.
1. One was a box of hooks with the wrong size hooks. They said, keep the hooks, and we will send you one with the right size hooks. No problem.
2. Since Jeff at MF has had his "whatever it is" and quit selling plastisol I've been researching plastisol. By researching I mean buying the same plastisol as anybody else retail at full price from various vendors. I've played with more plastisol int he last year than I have before that since I started making baits almost 20 years ago. I just got around to Do-It and I'm not crazy about some of the feedback on their Essentials, but I like what I hear about their Crystal Clear. I bought a 2.5 gallon jug of soft and 2.5 gallon jug of regular. They messed up and sent a 1 gallon jug of regular. I sent dropped them a message yesterday afternoon, and this morning they let me know a 2.5 gallon jug is on the way, and to just keep the gallon jug.
In both cases Do-It just took care of me. Now I am a mold maker. I do make suggestions where people could buy stuff. Hooks, hardware, other molds, plastisol, color glitter etc. I try to never mention a source I have had issues with or a product I've had problems with. I'm not expert on all things tackle making, but a lot of my own customers count on me to point them int he right direction. Maybe Do-It takes care of me because they know that. If I sell a mold, I sell one, mold, but the customer has to buy hooks lead, plastisol, and other supplies forever. I don't sell that stuff but Do-It does. I have sent people to them. Well, and just about everybody else if they have the nominally best option for whatever the customer is looking for. They seem, at least for me, to be a good company.
If Do-It Fishing has what you want, you should buy it from them. I mean that in earnest.
